Recording
Going Back To My Texas Home (Robison)Listen to a sample of this song.
Recorded by Bill Boyd’s Cowboy Ramblers for Bluebird in 1935. The Cowboy Ramblers were formed by Bill Boyd and his brother Jim in 1932 in Dallas, Texas and were heavily influenced by Milton Brown. The Cowboy Ramblers immediately began broadcasting on radio station WRR and recorded their first record for Victor in 1934. The Ramblers were primarily a studio band sharing musicians with other groups. Although they recorded many Jazz and dance band pieces, they were basically a country string band. Under The Double Eagle, a march by Josef Wagner (1902), was their most popular recording and remains a country standard. Cowboy and western themes, such as those depicted in Going Back To My Texas Home, are common in the Western Swing repertoire. Bill Boyd’s band probably recorded more cowboy songs than any other Western Swing band, except for the Tune Wranglers, another popular Texas string band from San Antonio. Like Bob Wills, Bill Boyd also appeared in several western movies and promoted a cowboy image. This song was written by Carson Robison who recorded it under his own name and as a duo with fellow Kansan Frank Luther as Bud and Joe Billings.
